Topic Ideas for Podcast

Idea 1: Getting rich... Slowly?

One of my interests is the stock market.  I know, I know,  it sounds really boring. However, what's not boring is this: Money. We live in a society where money talks and where money holds a lot of power. Interestingly, however, research shows us that very few young people understand the stock market, let alone invest money into it. To stage this podcast, I would focus less on the boring specifics of the stock market, and more on the life changing benefits of compound interest and passive income (also known as letting the money work for you).  The intriguing nature of this idea is that it is a great opportunity that most people overlook, I will demonstrate this by 1) interviewing college students about what they know/ think about the stock market. This should illustrate that there is a lack of knowledge about it. 2) I will interview a finance professor and a financial adviser to show how great of opportunity the stock market is.  At the end, the listener should feel informed about an opportunity they probably didn't even realize existed.  If necessary, I can always pose this topic as a question. For example, Why should I invest in the Stock Market.  I already know a good bit about the stock market, and would like to learn more about it through the course of this project... especially via talking to the industry professionals.  Lastly, this will be intriguing to the audience and your average viewer because 1) it is about money and 2) it is a near effortless and time tested way to increase wealth.

Idea 2: The Titanic!... So what really happened?

When you stop and think about it... it doesn't matter who you are: The Titanic is epic, awesome, sad, and doggone fascinating. I mean, it was the worlds nicest ship at the time, and it sunk on it's maiden voyage killing over 1,500 passengers.  Like, how often does that happen in history?  And when you think about it closely, something doesn't seem to line up here. How did the "unsinkable ship" sink on it's first departure sink catastrophically. Something doesn't line up here.  In doing this "mysterious mystery" podcast, I hope to learn more about the Titanic... because I currently know nothing other than that it hit an iceberg and sank. I also want to leave the audience with an eerie vibe, making them question what they traditionally thought was about this historical tragedy... and maybe even provide a few alternative answers.  My girlfriend goes to UNC Asheville.  One of her current professors is in a group who are actively trying to identify all the people who died in the Titanic and trace their ancestry. He would be a prime expert source for this topic. I would also interview a history teacher here at High Point who has some knowledge about the RMS Titanic. Spooky. And on that note, I would look forward to invoking eerie emotions through the use of tone, music, and special effects on the post production side of things; learning along the way.

Idea 3: Why don't we bury our power lines?

If this isn't the age old question of our generation, than I don't know what is (joke). But seriously, why don't we bury out power lines. Not only is this a mind wrenching question I don't know the answer too, I bet it is a question on the minds of your average person as well (joke). Not only would it undoubted look better, it appears to me that it would make our grid less susceptible to power outages due to poor weather. In order to answer this question, I would like to seek the advice of a employee at a power company... there are thousands of them to contact considering they are constantly repairing our above ground grid. I would also like to ask an environmental professor here or one that has worked in the utility sector.  In the end, it is not only the dryness of this topic that makes it interesting. It is the applicability it has to everyone's lives, whether it be for the practical reasons or town beautification and is sure to grab the attention of my audience for at least 2 minutes.
